How important education is...

One time there was a young 15 yr old girl, who decided she didn't want to be in school anymore.

Things at her home were very bad, she was failing almost every class, she couldn't walk down the hallway of the school without crying, she felt alone at school, and couldn't concentrate on her studies. Even some of her friends didn't go to school anymore, and of course, she wanted to hang out with them instead of being at school. So she came home from school one afternoon and told her parents that she had decided to quit school and that there was nothing they could say to change her mind.

At first, she had alot of fun. She could go to bed at whatever hour she wanted, wake up in the afternoon if she wanted. Some of her friends from her old school were envious of her. During the day, she would watch tv, go to the shopping malls, hang out with her friends at their houses or at the park. At night, she'd talk on the phone to her friends from her old school, making them jealous by telling them how much fun she had during the day. She seemed to be happy with her new life. Even though people we telling her that she would regret her decision later on. For months, and years, she continued to have fun. She didn't listen to the advise of people telling her to go back to school. They told her that the longer she waits, the harder it will be for her to go back. But, she didn't listen to anyone. She didn't think they knew what they were talking about.

The day of her 18th birthday, her parents told her that if she didn't go back to school, that she'd have to find a job. The young girl thought that it would be easy. She searched in the news papers and the classified ads. Finally she got lucky, she found a job in a coffee shop. The pay wasn't very good, and the work was very hard and stressful. So she decided to leave that job. She tried to find a new job, but she was having difficulty finding one. Alot of employers didn't give her a chance when they found out she hadn't finished school. She decided to go on social assistance until she could find a job.

As the years passed, it became harder for her to find a good job because of her lack of education. Sure, she found jobs here and tehre, but they were all low paying jobs. The hours were long and the work was hard. Now she was begining to ask herself if she made a mistake by leaving school. Just like everyone had said, she was beginging to regret the decision she made when she was a teenager.

Now, as an adult, she realizes that you need an education if you want to go far in life. Having an education is important not only to be wiser, but also you can be a good role model for your children and your younger siblings. And, having a good education will help you to get a good job in the future and have a better life.

I hope you learned the true meaning of this story and learn the importance of education and always have in mind that an education is not a waste of time and that the nations march to their greatness at the same pace as their education advances.

Pensare in grande. Sebbene alcune persone ci chiamano sognatori.

Do we take the simple things in life for granted ?

Too often, the majority of us take for granted the simplest things in life, sometimes without even realizing that we are doing it.

Imagine waking up one day and trying to get up out of bed, only to find that you can't feel your legs at all. Have you ever thought about what life would be like if one day you woke up and you couldn't hear anything ? Imagine one day you're looking outside, enjoying the view of the city, and then next thing you know, you lose total use of your vision, permanently, whether it be due to an accident, or an illness. Can you think of what your life would be like if one day if you were in a terrible accident and you had to have a limb amputated, whether it be your arm or leg (or even just a hand or a foot) ?

How would you feel ? Would you be able to cope with it and learn to adapt and live your life without the use of your legs (or an arm or just one leg, maybe one hand, or one foot), or would you get so depressed that you would just give up ? If you lost your hearing, would you learn sign language and learn to read lips, or again, would you just give up and expect someone to be your ears for you ? What about if you lost your sight ? Would you learn to read braile, get a seeing-eye dog, and learn to live life as a blind person, or would you just keep yourself locked up in your home, mad at the world, and expect people to come and treat you like a baby, feeding you, dressing you, bathing you, doing everything for you that you could have done before you lost your sight ?

We all assume that if we are born with the ability to walk, see, hear, touch, etc, that we will always be able to do those things. Sometimes we take it for granted, and we don't appreciate it. How many times have you seen a disabled person on the street and thought to yourself that you just wish they would move out of the way, or go somewhere else ? Alot of people will deny thinking that way, but be honest, alot of us have at one time or another. There's even some people who go as far as to make fun of a disabled person, calling them names, making funny faces at blind people, knocking someone's cane or crutch out from under them, pushing a wheelchair down a steep street, etc. No one stops to think that maybe, just maybe, those people once had full use of their senses just like we do, and that they have to deal with the biggest change of their life.

Why make it harder on them ?

Some of those people might even have been born blind, or deaf, and have never been able to get a feel for the sounds and sights that we see and/or hear on a daily basis. Sounds and sights that to us might seem to be so trivial and unimportant, like the sunlight coming through a window, the flowers swaying in the wind, a child chasing a kite through a park, laughing as she runs, a dog barking out of excitement.

These are all things in our daily lives that we take for granted, without realizing it.

Once someone loses one of those senses that they once had, it is then, that they finally realize that they have taken even the simplest things in life for granted. They start to understand how some of those disabled people they once made fun of are feeling, because now, they are disabled themselves. They realize and appreciate that life is precious and that we shouldn't be taking anything for granted, even something as simple as hearing the sound of rain hitting a rooftop during a storm.

An always have in mind that we all need to stop taking things for granted and start appreciating them more before its too late.

How important is friendship in our lives...

Tonight while watching a movie with Tamara, we started to talk about friends and what friends mean to us. We decided to write a post about friendship and how important friendships are in our lives.

Before we can figure that out, we first need to figure out what exactly is a "Friend" ?

The word "friend" is actually harder to explain than I thought it would be. According to the dictionary, a friend is "a person who knows and likes another, a person who favours and supports a person who belongs to the same side or group". Well judging by that definition, everyone in the world must have hundreds of friends, if not more, right ? Wrong. There is way more to being a friend than just liking someone or supporting someone.

A friend is someone who knows all about you and likes you anyway. Being a friend means more than recognizing that no one is perfect, it means accepting it. A true friend is someone who knows that you won't always agree about everything, and doesn't hold it against you when you have a difference of opinion. Someone who isn't judgmental and is there to listen to you when you need it, no matter the subject. Someone you can trust with your life and your deepest, darkest secrets. Someone who will never let you down. Someone you can always rely on. A friend is someone who can keep you grounded and focused. Someone who can help you see through your obstacles. Someone to offer a shoulder to cry on when life gets rough. Someone to laugh and to cry with. Someone to lean on, through both the good and the bad. Someone you can be yourself around no matter how silly you want to be, and they won't make fun of you, they'll be laughing with you, and acting silly themselves. Someone you can sit silently beside, without conversation, but yet there is no boredom.
A friend is someone you choose wisely, because a friend is a reflection of yourself. Someone to compliment your own self, Someone who indicates who you are as a person.

Too many people get the meaning of a friend confused with that of an acquaintance. People are quick to call almost every person they share a conversation with a friend when that is not the case. For example, someone you work with is not exactly considered a friend, but yet, many people introduce their co-workers to other friends as friends. Many will say that it is because it is easier to just say friend, but it is really because not everyone knows the true meaning of friends.

An acquaintance is someone that you know enough to no longer consider them a stranger, but yet they are not close enough to you for you to call them a friend. That doesn't mean that acquaintances can not eventually become friends, but there is a fine line between the two because not every acquaintance will be special enough to call a friend.

And always have in mind that a friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words...
